The Homelab Bench

Put LGM-OS 4.10.0 through its paces on Proxmox: installation, SMB folders from a second account and a real restore, checked file by file. Versions 4.12.2, 4.12.3 and 4.12.4 come out of that review —the false intrusion alarm, system accounts that could become logins, restoring to the original folder— and what was left went into 4.14.0: licence linking, the Shield wording and the leftover Spanish.

What this work brought

The versions owed to this work, complete and exactly as they were published.

4.12.22026-11-03#

Shared folders · Backups · Network · Installation · +6

Changes

  • Shared folders: once a volume exists, the system disk is no longer offered for new folders, and a new folder goes to the volume where the others already are.
  • Backups: the suggested restore folder is on the volume of what was backed up, not on the backup disk.
  • Network: the new-device alert spends its first day learning the devices at home without alerting.
  • Installation: an empty SSD is preselected among the empty disks, and every disk in the list shows its serial number.

Fixes

  • Mobile: lists no longer freeze under your finger while a screen is loading, starting with the Control Panel.
  • Security: the "system files have changed without an update" alert no longer fires after every reboot on a freshly installed NAS.
  • Users: internal system accounts (such as wsdd2) no longer appear in the list and can no longer be given a password or access.
  • Backups: restoring into the original folder puts each file back in place instead of nesting it inside mnt/….
  • Snapshots: manual ones are labelled "Manual", not "Automatic".
  • Users: setting another account's password asks for it twice, and what you type can be shown.
  • Devices: compressed memory (zram) no longer shows up as a disk.
  • Backups: the folders-without-backup notice no longer shows two different numbers.
  • Snapshots: the lock help no longer claims nobody on the machine can remove it: someone with root on the console can.
  • LGM Connect: brings this version's panel fixes: the repeated password when setting another account's, manual snapshots, the restore folder and where new folders are created.

4.12.32026-11-03#

Backups · Overview · Weekly report · Restore drill · +7

Changes

  • Backups: a scheduled job that has not run yet shows as "Waiting for its first run", not as overdue.
  • Backups: the "backup on the same disk" warning only shows when the destination is on the folders' volume.
  • Overview: the space for data no longer adds the volume that only holds backups.
  • Weekly report: the first one arrives a week after installing, not on the same day.
  • Restore drill: if there was no backup to test, it tries again the next day.
  • Folders on the network: "My Drive" and "Shared with me" show in the installation language.

Fixes

  • Licence: "Check now" updates the time of the online check.
  • Users: the console account no longer counts towards "accounts in use".
  • Backups: a backup's progress shows in the panel language.
  • Technical report: compressed memory (zram) no longer shows up as a disk.
  • Shield: in English it is always called "Shield".
  • Guides: SMB3 with encryption by default, encrypted cloud backups, the installer's "Continue", Btrfs restoring in place and the name of the first folder.
  • LGM Connect: brings this version's panel fixes.

4.12.42026-11-04#

Backups · Delete lock · Weekly report · Console · +1

  • Backups: if a disk destination's folder does not exist, the test offers "Create it"; only inside a mounted volume or external disk.
  • Backups: a destination you have just saved is tested on its own, and its card shows the result instead of "Untested".
  • Delete lock: on a Btrfs volume you are told before turning it on that there the panel is what protects it.
  • Weekly report: the disks of a virtual machine are counted apart, without saying it is unknown whether they are healthy.
  • Console: kernel notices are no longer written over the NAS status screen.
  • LGM Connect: brings this version's panel changes.

4.14.02026-11-04#

Fleet redesigned · Fleet: control of each NAS · Fleet: its panel in one click · Fleet: mount its folders · +9

New

  • Fleet redesigned. NAS list on the left and each one's page on the right, with its live performance, services, apps, folders, backups and log (Business edition).
  • Fleet: control of each NAS. Start, stop or restart its services and apps, run a backup, read its log and open its terminal without leaving the console (Business edition).
  • Fleet: its panel in one click. “Open its panel” signs in to the other NAS without typing the password again, with a one-minute, single-use link (Business edition).
  • Fleet: mount its folders. Another NAS's shared folders are mounted on the console as remote folders (Business edition).
  • Fleet: the managed NAS knows it. “In a fleet” shows at the top, and Fleet → This NAS says which console manages it, when it last connected and what it can do, with a button to cut it off (Business edition).
  • LGM Connect: brings the new Fleet.

Fixes

  • Licence: linking the NAS at lgm-os.com/enlazar by typing the code shows your licences instead of “That licence does not belong to this account”.
  • Backups: the destination’s Shield no longer promises that not even root can delete the snapshots: they cannot be deleted without removing the lock first.
  • Alerts: a NAS coming from an earlier version spends a day learning the home devices before warning about “New device on your network”.
  • Language: “My Drive” in Backups, external access in the Overview, a backup’s file count and the folder suggested for a restore follow the panel’s language.
  • Console: sudo lgm update speaks the language chosen at install time.
  • Users: the console account no longer opens a form with a password and role that cannot be changed.
  • Cloudy AI: “something to block ads” recommends a Package Center app such as AdGuard Home instead of proposing to block an IP.
  • Cloudy AI: the Package Center finds the app even when asked with a sentence (“something to keep the family’s passwords”).
  • Cloudy AI: no longer makes up what a tool returned or leaves bits of code in its answer.
  • Cloudy AI: the internal names of its tools no longer show up in its answers.
  • Cloudy AI: looks before answering about login attempts, who is connected and a problem described without a question (“everything is crawling”, “a disk keeps clicking”).
  • Cloudy AI: asked “why is nextcloud failing?” with the app working, it says so instead of blaming another alert.
  • Cloudy AI: understands space, backups, network, logs and disks the way people say them at home (“will a 50 GB movie fit?”, “I can’t get in from work”).
  • Cloudy AI: a short sentence in Spanish gets its answer in Spanish even with the panel in another language.
  • LGM Connect: brings these panel fixes.

Security

  • LGM Connect: typing its code at lgm-os.com/enlazar no longer grants it permission without pressing “Give permission”.
