DB Tech

Tested LGM-OS live with their community, and 2.1.0 comes out of that stream: the keyboard in the installer, windows that snap, “Format…” for disks from another system, compose.yaml and the new-version notice. With ideas from @speybondon, @eldesan_79, @epreinhad1609, @jcollins25 and @jason-budney7624.

New

  • Installation (new ISO): it asks for the keyboard layout (Spain, Latin America, US, UK…); it used to be tied to the language. Spotted in DB Tech's live stream.
  • Installation (new ISO): at the end it asks you to remove the USB stick and waits for «Continue» to restart; it used to restart on its own and, with the stick still in, the installer came back. Spotted in DB Tech's live stream.
  • Regional settings: the NAS keyboard layout (console and server screen) can be changed from the panel. Spotted in DB Tech's live stream.
  • Desktop: windows snap: dragged to an edge they fill that half, to a corner the quarter, and «Tile the windows» lays them all out. Idea from @speybondon in DB Tech's live stream.
  • Storage: «Format…» empties a disk from another system (Proxmox, an older NAS, an LVM) in seconds so it can be used for a volume, with a double warning. Idea from DB Tech's live stream.
  • Storage: a disk with another machine's ZFS pool can now be used; it used to show as locked with no way to erase it. Spotted in DB Tech's live stream.
  • Package Center: it tells you when an application has a new version; with “Update itself” it already updated overnight. Idea by @eldesan_79 and @speybondon in DB Tech's live stream.

Changes

  • Applications: each one's recipe is saved as compose.yaml, Compose's current name; those already installed stay as they are until touched. Correction by @speybondon in DB Tech's live stream.
  • Files: the folder path sits at the top, in the header, and the footer only appears when needed: more room for the list on scaled laptop screens. Idea from @epreinhad1609 in DB Tech's live stream.
  • Virtual machines: the NAS no longer offers system images (Debian and Ubuntu used to be one click away): machines are created from the ISO you choose or upload. Flagged by @jcollins25 and @jason-budney7624 in DB Tech's live stream.

Fixes

  • Storage: another system's boot disk (Proxmox, TrueNAS) is no longer adopted automatically, and adopting a pool only mounts what hangs from its folder, never on top of the system.
  • Storage: a newly created or adopted ZFS pool, the cache disk and USB drives stayed unmounted for the panel. If a pool said «created but could not be mounted», delete it and create it again.
  • Creating a volume: a disk with another system's LVM or RAID running can now be used; an administrator's password is asked for to release it before erasing it.
  • Whole panel: a refusal from the privileged service is no longer shown as «cannot reach nas-helper»; its reason is shown instead.
  • Files: what LGM Connect uploads to Movies, Gallery or Music can be deleted and renamed from the panel; what was already uploaded is repaired on its own when updating.
  • Files: when something cannot be deleted, the notice says why.
  • Installation: if a step fails, the server screen says which one, why and which attempt it is on, instead of staying at its percentage as if it were moving. Spotted in DB Tech's live stream.
  • Whole panel: the notices that something went well (folder created, replica stopped, scan finished…) appear in English or German when the panel is in that language; they came out in Spanish. Spotted in DB Tech's live stream.
  • Updates: the progress, the log and the reason for a failure appear in the panel's language. Spotted in DB Tech's live stream.
  • Storage: when adding a cache or spare disk, the disks not offered are listed with their reason. Spotted in DB Tech's live stream.
